Modeling Knowledge Work: Case Management and Decision-aware Business Processes

Abstract

Case management is the management of long-lived collaborative processes that require knowledge, information, and resources to achieve an objective or goal. The path of execution cannot be predefined. Human judgment is required in determining how to proceed. The OMG recently developed a new standard: Case Management Modelling and Notation (CMMN). The lecture will give an introduction into this modelling language and shows, how it can be integrated with Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN). Decision-making is a type of knowledgeintensive tasks which occurs in both cases and structured processes. Decision-aware business processes separate decision logic from process flow, making process models simpler and easier to modify.
